the counter

it's eaten at the counter numerous times but this is a first for me.  a bun-less burger.  i think i should say it again just so you understand how painful this experience was for me.. A BUN-LESS BURGER.  i'm not gluten intolerant and i'm not feeling sick but i am trying to make better decisions when it comes to eating.  so her it goes the start of a new adventure.  don't get me wrong i'm still going to eat things that are over the top on the calorie counting charts but when i have options to cut back i will.  this does not in anyway mean that i'm going to give up on eating what i want to eat but i will simply find opportunities to make smarter choices.

nielsen's

hey, do you mind if we stop off and grab some frozen custard??

ummm did you really just ask me that question?  if it's cold, packed full of dairy and fat and a bonus where i can choose toppings.. well then you should know that i'm game.  no need to ask just lead the way.  hahhaa

although i lived in utah for a short few months i'd never heard of nielsen's and i find that unfortunate considering i only lived 2-3 miles from one of their locations.  i guess at this point it probably worked out for the best since this custard is delicious and i would've have been a frequent customer.  what i'm trying to say is if you live in the area avoid it as best you can but if you are stopping in the SLC area then it's worth a short drive.

grilled cheese mac and cheese

SAY WHAT??!!  yes i said  a grilled cheese mac & cheese (aks the mac daddy) and sweet corn tortilla soup from the melt.  i was surprised how much i enjoyed both the soup and the mac daddy.  also the melt has house made root beer on tap.. i recommend it.

cheesy eggs & potatoes and gravy

BIG MAMMA SPECIAL
this is a terrible picture of my greasy but super wonderful brunch on the go from roscoe's in long beach.  potatoes & gravy, cheesy eggs and a biscuit.  seriously i'm not sure what they do to those cheesy eggs to make them so fantastic but they are the best eggs around.

la sandia

an afternoon of shopping in santa monica at the promenade makes for some hungry ladies so we decided to stop in at La Sandia for lunch.  i ordered the chicken zarape since it was recommended to my by both the employees i asked what their favorite dishes were.  the dish was chicken with bacon, pico de gallo, cotija and chipotle sauce served with refried black beans and creamy white rice.

after the hype and recommendations on this dish i was sorely disappointed on what was delivered.  the chicken while draped in sauce was dry and majorly lacking flavor.  the black beans were fine but also needed help in the flavor department.  to me the star of the dish was the creamy white rice despite the fact i didn't feel like it belonged at a mexican restaurant.

12 best cookies in san francisco

here is the list of the 12 best cookies in san francisco from 7x7sf.  i can only vouch for 2 on the list since that's all i've tried but i will recommend both the cookies & cream and gingersnap cookies listed.

9) Cookies and cream from Anthony's
Anthony Lucas' Mission shop switches up the cookie roster daily. But his regulars won't let him take away the cookies-and-cream flavor, specked with semi-pulverized Oreo chunks and perfect with a cold glass of Straus milk.
10) Gingersnap from Miette
A long-running Big Eat selection, this ginger cookie may look thin and unassuming, but it packs in three types of ginger for a spicy, deep punch that's unmatched by any other. Get to the Ferry Building now and buy yourself some.
