a sweet celebration

the griffins, the main asian and i went to dinner with elle to celebrate. this was a celebration for a large accomplishment of her hard work and dedication and perseverance. she's been engulfed with such a large project that has consumed her life over the past few months and this marks the end of her journey and she is now rewarded with much earned free time. to celebrate she chose a mexican place that we all love called la pinata in fremont. i have never had a bad experience at any of the locations for la pinata and i would recommend it to anyone in the area of one of their many locations! here is a picture of my pork enchilada plate.

after dinner we ended up at sweet orchid, also in fremont, for gelato. i was originally introduced to this place by brenda last year and i've been unable to stop going. tonight i was so intrigued with the idea of cilantro lemon sorbet that i bypassed the gelato completely. the flavor of both the mango and cilantro sorbet was pleasantly refreshing. literally there was a party in my mouth and my taste buds were dancing!

bake sale betty's

i'd heard about bake sale betty's in oakland from a friend and we'd tried but were never able to make it before today. i wanted to try the chicken sandwich since i'd heard good things and the pictures look so appetizing. they make a huge batch of fried chicken in the mornings and just sell sell sell all day long. this means the chicken sandwiches are not hot and are actually cold. the crisp on the chicken was good and it had a decent flavor that was spiced with cayenne pepper. instead of mayo or lettuce it was topped with a house made cole slaw. the cole slaw looks better than it was since i felt it was mostly bland. it was cabbage, parsley, red onions and green peppers with some type of oil/dressing to wet it. i felt it was lacking some type of creamy goodness or mayo. also i think they should have used cilantro instead of parsley to spruce it up a bit.

for dessert i got a pecan shortbread cookie which was divine!!! the also had strawberries short cake that my friend got and liked but i don't eat strawberries so i didn't try it even if it did look super tasty. they actually had several types of cookies and other one of desserts as well. one fun thing about bake sale betty's is that instead of tables you eat over an ironing board and sit on a stool. it's funny but it works and you just eat outside on the sidewalk in front of the store. if you look you can see that their menu is just handwritten on paper and posted if the front window there isn't even a menu inside.

alexis is a serious heart breaker! it's not like she tries to be but these poor boys don't stand a chance against her alluring looks, hip fashion sense, spirited personality and her optimistic up beat outlook on life. besides her full time job as a professional heart breaker she has recently graduated college and is currently working on putting her puzzle pieces in order. ever since i've know alexis she's been in the midst of one transition or another from going back and forth to/from school, work, boys, travels, an internship and life decisions. despite all these things twisting her life in many directions she is quick to pick herself up and move forward with a stronger sense of who she is. she's finally arrived at this crossroad in which she's been striving to reach for a long time. i'm so proud of her many accomplishments and excited for her to embark on a new adventure. to her i say embrace this fun and exciting time of new experiences that will shape your future. don't hesitate or second guess yourself. don't be scared to take risks and grab the bull by the horns. you know what you want now go get it!!

it's what i had..

i can't believe how much food is still in my fridge/freezer, it's seriously ridiculous!!! after the festival i wasn't hungry until 10pm rolled around and it hit me hard. i scrounged up some food and this is what i came up with.

peppers, onions, hot links and yes more garlic. i cut up the hot links and served it over rice since i didn't have any hoagie rolls.

garlic festival 2010

the griffins and i were so excited to eat our way through the gilroy garlic festival, and eat we did!! we decided that to enjoy some of everything we should share and not get full on any one item. here is a list of everything we ate: garlic pesto pasta, garlic bread, beer battered garlic fries, a pupusa, philly cheese steak, a garlic egg roll, virgin pina-colada, garlic thai chicken kabob and a fruit smoothie. the most unique thing i ate was the pupusa, since i had never heard of a pupusa i was intrigued. the shell was made of corn and was served with a little sauce on the side, to us it tasted a lot like enchilada sauce. i felt like this was an el salvadorean version of a quesadilla that meets an enchilada. the only thing lacking for me was the fact that there was no meat and only filled with cheese and green onions. even the no meat factor i thought it was delicious and the corn shell is why i'll try it again. if i had to choose my top three items were the garlic bread, beer battered garlic fries and the garlic egg roll. the bread was so soft and had the perfect amount of garlic & butter, the fries were great on their own but after adding garlic they were superb, and the eggroll was differnt from the norm with flavor bursting in every bite. overall the food was delicious and worth the admission price!

while around walking and eating i spotted a tent from a distance with a large sign. i saw a picture on the sign and i knew exactly what this meant. i rushed over to verify and sure enough the booth was for chef ryan scott. after waiting in line i was finally able to talk to ryan and told him i was the girl he purchased the dessert for at esin. he said he remembered me and called me beautiful.. hahahaha even if he was lying to get a sale, it worked. we ordered one twinkie and one ho ho and he even posed for me to take a picture.

adorable and he cooks..
hello ladies what more could a girl ask for?
