i now understand why they are called sugar cookies, actually scratch that, actually now i'm confused as to why they are called sugar cookies.. in fact i think the name should be changed and they should be known to the world as really difficult cookies topped with sugar frosting.  seriously the 3/4 cup of sugar in the dough doesn't even come close to the 4 1/2 cups of powdered sugar called for in the frosting.  am i alone if feeling like these suckers require too much effort and not enough pay out??

here is my super cute cookie cutter that i just had to purchase.  so cute that it made me think i could actually pull it off.

here is a picture of some of the cookies after being cooked.  i guess i rolled them too thin cause they cooked super fast and when i pulled them up after cutting them out they ripped and stretched like crazy.  after 2 pans of imperfect cookie cut outs i gave and and baked a cake.

here is a picture of my end result.. not what i started out to do but it turned out cute.  yes i used the cookie frosting to frost this red velvet cake and no i didn't mean for the frosting to get pieces of cake mixed into it.  too bad i didn't think to take a picture of the cake after the first slice was cut cause it looked like a hole was dug out for a body to be buried.

winner winner mexican mac & cheese for dinner!!
mexican mac - niman ranch chorizo, chipotle peppers, jack cheese, and cilantro, topped with crispy breadcrumbs and served with a wedge of lime

hukilau

 Da Big Bruddah Combo

dinner at da hukilau to celebrate the glorious birth of our main asian, oh how we love her!  it was a fabulous evening seeing her and hanging with friends but to be honest the food was only so so.  it did however serve it's purpose in giving us a place to gather a large mass of people for dinner and a light entertainment (karaoke).

throwback thursday - more than words

who doesn't love 2 grown men
playing acoustic guitar at each other?
there are really no words to express what has already been said in this song.  love is so much more than saying it out loud it's how you treat and how you show them that you truly love a person.

classic rock show

night ranger - hmmm i didn't know much of their music so i don't really have a lot to say about them.  i will say that they were the right band for the job to open up the show.

foreigner - before they hit the stage several people asked me what songs foreigner sang and i said cold as ice or i want to know what love is.  they looked at me as if i was speaking a foreign language.  i told them not to worry and once they heard a few songs they would think oh i know that song.. naturally i was correct.  i'll admit that i was more excited to see foreigner than i was to see journey and thankfully they did not disappoint.  in fact they far exceeded my expectations for the evening.  their excitement and passion for their music radiated in each of us who were in attendance and i believe that the rest of the audience would agree that foreigner should have been the show closer over journey!

journey - to say the least i was astonished at the poor performance by journey.  yes i knew before and i understood that it's not the original singer.  maybe it was the fact that they preformed after the highly energetic foreigner but still you would think journey could give us a little more than an above average karaoke concert performance.  even if i wasn't impressed by them it was still fun to sing along to all their great hits.

on a boat somewhere

if i had me a nickel for every time
i could count on you i wouldn’t have a dime
but if could turn your so called love into cold hard cash
it would turn my life around real fast
if I could take the heart aches all the let downs and the pain
count them all up cash them all in
and make a quick stop at the bank
then i’d be on a boat somewhere

hardy's bavaria

hardy's bavaria may have slow service but i was please overall with my experience.  when i say slow i mean you should have a larger chunk of time to spare before stopping off here.

here is a picture of my goulash soup, it was decent but i'm not certain i'd order it again.  i don't think it was something they did wrong i just think now that i've tasted goulash i don't really need to eat it again.. i guess i'm not a huge fan but again i don't think it was this specific batch of soup that i didn't like.  to me it tasted like it sounds.. mysteriously confusing.

i wish i'd taken a picture of the menu so that i could tell you what this is called but sadly i do not remember.  however what i can tell you is that this dish was extremely delicious!  i ordered some type of pork and peppers dish served with potatoes, the menu didn't tell me this part but it was served with a house side salad as well as a bowl of lentil soup (i ended up not eating either of them).  the dressing on the salad i did not care for in the slightest and the soup just seemed like an over kill after eating a bowl of goulash, if i'd known ahead of time that soup was served with my meal i would have skipped the extra order of soup but i guess now i can at least say i've tried it.  i believe that i speak for the my group when i say we were please with the outcome of the food but got a little antsy waiting so long.  i've been to several german restaurants before but this was my best main course experience.
